 Sacramento River

Lower

Flowing from the cold depths of Lake Shasta to the San-Fransisco Bay, the Sac is the heart of California. The river is an incredible ecosystem in itself. The Lower Sac is considered by many to be one of the state's top wild trout destinations.

Shasta's dam creates ideal temperatures for trout year round, with prime seasons being Spring and Fall. Hatches can be phenomenal during the spring while trout gorge on salmon eggs during the Fall.

While other waters can be a bit of a gamble at times, the Lower Sacramento is almost always the best option around for producing solid numbers of strong wild trout year round.

Nymphing is the most common tactic used here, however dry fly tactics can produce fish, and very large fish at that. I typically like to change up tactics when the river or conditions call for it. This makes for a nice change of pace throughout the day.

Trips here are 100% drift boat trips. However getting out and wading is a very regular occurrence.
